Willie Nelson

Willie Nelson was born in 1933 in the small town of Abbott, Texas. Already in his youth he pursued with ambition his musical dream. He played in local match prophecies and had a job as Country DJ at the local radio station, where he later even got his own show. In 1959 he managed to sell the rights to his song “Nightlife”. This song was interpreted until today by some 70 artists and has sold thirty million times.
In 1960 he moved to Nashville in the then capital of the country, where she worked as a songwriter in the following decade. Two years later he had sung with Patsy Cline and the song “Crazy”, and the song “Hello Walls” by Faron Young, the first number-one hits. When he first learned Waylon Jennings joined the two at once a great friendship. In 1978 they took together on the album “Waylon & Willie”, can be found on the the smash hit “Mammas Do not Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys”. Later joined in 1985 still Johnny Cash and Kris Kristofferson to. That was the birth of the legendary “The Highwayman”, one of the famous “Bad-Boy Group” of the Country. They released three albums and went to 1995 repeatedly and successfully on a world tour.

During his time in Nashville managed Willie Nelson to establish itself as a songwriter. Despite his success, he was unhappy with the situation. He could not make friends with the then all too commercial Nashville Sound and decided in 1970, when his house abrannte, turning his back on the city. Back in Texas began Willie Nelson to sing his own material itself. His uncompromising and idiosyncratic sound made him the focus of this “outlaw country”. This continued into the 70s aware of the ground smooth Nashville sound off and revolutionized by the Country world sustainably. Today’s genre of “alternative country” with its most famous representatives Ryan Adams, the “Bright Eyes” or “Galexico” would not exist well without this break with the then Establishment case today. The success was Willie Nelson right itself Nashville was thrilled after initial irritation of the new movement. With his hit “Red Headed Stranger” he captured the 1975 US singles charts. The 1976 released album “Wanted! The Outlwas” on which also Waylon Jennings, Jessi Colter and Tompall Glaser can be heard alongside Nelson, sold as the first country album ever more than one million times. 1979 even has its own museum for Willie Nelson was opened in Nashville.

During his further career Nelson was awarded nine Grammys, including for his life’s work and most recently in 2008 for his work with Ray Price. He also successfully collaborated with exceptional artists such as Bob Dylan, Dolly Parton or Neil Young. In addition to his musical activities, he is also active politically. So he called with Neil Young and John Mellencamp 1986 Benefit Concert “Farm Aid” to life, which has since been held annually with great success and supports American farmers. He is also co-chair of the organization NORML (National Organization For The Reform Of Marijuana Laws), which campaigns for the legalization soft drugs. Obstinacy he proves as co-founder of “Willie Nelson Biodiesel”, which manufactures truck fuel from vegetable oils. Particularly impressive is the bandwidth that Willie Nelson creates the day with his musical creations. The published in 2008 Country Jazz Cooperation “Two Men with Blues” with Wynton Marsalis or his 2009 published work “American Classic” on the enchanted luminary with swinging bar jazz and a duet with Norah Jones, are just a few of its diversity, support but clearly his musical genius. If you want the influence of Willie Nelson on the singer / songwriter genre describe in one sentence, it could be expressed as follows: Willie Nelson manages with his songs in three minutes to tell that for which others need all careers.
