Sean Garrett born March 30, 1979 in Atlanta, Georgia as Garrett Hamler. Sean Garrett was born in Atlanta but moved to Europe with his family at the age of four. The reason was the father, who was with the US military, and was stationed in various bases in Germany and England. After appearing in some Talentshows, he received a record contract with Ariola at the age of 17. However, when he returned to the United States a few years later, he was to sign with Warner Bros. Records. However, shortly before the conclusion of the contract, the black music department of the label was dissolved, so that the deal did not come. Frustrated by this, he initially took distance from the music scene and made a college degree at the University of Maryland and began working as a mortgage broker in South Carolina.
Garrett began to write songs again, some of which he also recorded and some of which were also played on the radio. Some of the music industry leaders now pushed him to work as a songwriter for other artists. He refused, however, as he saw himself as a singer at that time. He changed his mind as he retired to Atlanta and his mother Rita died. Antonio Reid finally signed him in 2003 as a songwriter. There he had his breakthrough with the single Yeah !, sung by Usher, who stood at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 for 12 weeks. In the following years he worked with numerous successful artists and had several number one hits in the USA. This he used to start his solokarriere. He released the single Grippin ‘in 2008, recorded with Ludacris, who was the prelude to his debut album Turbo 919, which was released on May 27th of the year. The song reached # 40 on the US R & B charts.
The Single What Them Girls Like, where Garrett collaborated with Ludacris and Chris Brown, rose to # 17 on the R & B charts in summer 2008 and # 33 on the Billboard Hot 100. Break Up, a feature with Mario and Gucci Mane, Garrett’s greatest success as a singer. The single climbed to # 2 on the R & B charts and on # 14 of the Hot 100. In 2010, even smaller hits in the R & B charts followed: Get It All and Massive Attack (both with Nicki Minaj) and Feel Love (with J. Cole and Drake).
The previous charting as a singer succeeded in 2011 with In da Box, a feature with Rick Ross, on position 54 of the R & B charts. In the same year, Garrett was also part of the Artists for Haiti, a charity project of various performers in favor of the victims of the earthquake disaster of 12 January 2010. The new recording of the 1980s benefit We Are the World made it to No. 2 in the US single- Charts.
