Ellie Goulding (born December 30, 1986 in Hereford, England as Elena Jane Goulding) is an English singer-songwriter.
Ellie Goulding was born in Hereford, England, and grew up in Herefordshire. After her graduation she attended the University of Kent, but interrupted her studies after two years from. Since the end of 2011 she was with the American DJ and music producer Skrillex together. The two announced their separation in October 2012. Since January 2013 Goulding is dating actor Jeremy Irvine.
2007 – 2009: Lights and Bright Lights
At the age of 15, she learned to play guitar and began writing her own songs. She also plays the clarinet and drums. Goulding has the vocal range of a soprano.
During her studies, she met the producer Star Smith know who had a major influence on their music and was later to become one of the producers of her debut album. After she gave up studying, she moved to London, where she appeared in British pubs. There she was discovered by the record label Polydor and commissioned in September 2009 under contract. The debut single Under the Sheets was not published under this label, but among the smaller independent label Neon Gold Records, so the pressure on them is not too large. The song reached number 53 on the British charts. In October 2009, she went with the British singer Little Boots tour through the United Kingdom. An appearance on Later with Jools Holland in October 2009 brought her the breakthrough. She won the Critics Prize Brits Critics’ Choice award at the BRIT Awards 2009 as the most promising newcomer for the coming year. Also in the Sound of 2010 list BBC she was named as a favorite for 2010, which made her the first second artist after the singer Adele, who won both awards in the same year. Shortly after the announcement of her nomination for the BBC Sound of 2010 list their first EP was released with the name An Introduction to Ellie Goulding by Polydor exclusively via iTunes and Zune on 20 December of 2009. This includes the songs Under the Sheets and Wish I Stayed and three videos. The EP was later published also in America, where she got a new track list.
finally their debut album Lights was published in March 2010 and immediately reached # 1 on the UK album charts. Before their second single Starry Eyed reached # 4 on the British charts. The song was part of the soundtrack of the comic book adaptation Kick-Ass, and was also used in the final episode of the first season of the series Awkward. The third and fourth single songs Guns and Horses and The Writer was published, which places 24 and 19 reached. In August 2010 they released an EP named Run Into the Light, containing remixes of some of the songs of Lights.
In November 2010, the album under the name Bright Lights rereleased and contained 6 new additional songs. Originally, the publication of the title track Lights was scheduled on 1 November 2010 as the first single from the album. These plans, however, were in favor of the publication of a cover of the song Your Song by Elton John on 12 November 2010, which should be part of a Christmas advertising the British company John Lewis, discarded. The song was previously Goulding biggest hit, reaching number 2 in the British singles charts. She could sing the song and some other cover live at the wedding reception of Prince William and Duchess Kate.
In January 2011, they announced that the title song Lights would be the next single from the album. Following the release of the song on 13 March 2011, the song reached number 11 on the British charts. He is their most successful single in the US. They reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts and was awarded double platinum. An acoustic version of the song Only Girl (In the World) singer Rihanna was included as a B-side. Also in Germany was Lights belatedly her biggest hit, reaching number 13 in the charts, after the Raab sang the title in January 2013, the show beat live.
In May 2010 Lena published on their debut album My Cassette Player to written by Ellie Goulding Song Not Following You, the song was titled on Lena’s album as an emergency Following. Moreover Goulding gave her in 2011 again a song Who’d Want To Find Love? called.
Many of their songs were used as background music of different series. So one could hear the song Everytime You Go in an episode of the series Vampire Diaries, while Your Biggest Mistake were used for The Inbetweeners and Believe Me series in the series 90210th
During this time, Goulding also appeared at numerous festivals, among others in the UK Glastonbury Festival 2010, the Belgian Pukkelpop Festival 2010, the American Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival 2011 the V Festival 2010 and 2011sowie on the concert in honor of Nobel Peace Prize in 2011 in Oslo. The third EP was released on July 15, 2010, a live recording of their concert at the iTunes Festival of 2010.
Since 2012: Halcyon
In February 2011, she announced in an interview that it plans to release a second album. In April 2012, they finally announced that the publication in October of the same year would be made. Preliminary she released a cover of the song Hanging On Active Child, a collaboration with British rapper Tinie Tempah for free on their SoundCloud page. The song also was in the trailer of the game God of War: Ascension for the Playstation 3 uses. The official lead single from the album, Anything Could Happen, was published on 21 August 2012 Design. It reached number 5 on the British charts. The second single Figure 8 was also placed in the British charts, before it was even released, reaching number 33 on the charts. The accompanying video appeared on 20 November 2012 Design.
On September 19, 2011, announced that it would occur on Katy Perry’s California Dreams Tour as opening act. So they replaced Jessie J, due to a foot injury could not perceive these dates. In July 2013, it announced that a re-release is planned. The album called Halcyon Days appeared on 23 August 2013 in the UK. The first single of the song Burn appeared on 11 August of the same year. The accompanying video was published on July 8, 2013.
