Celine Dion

Céline Marie Claudette Dion (born March 30, 1968 in Charlemagne, Quebec) is a Canadian singer. With 250 million albums sold it is one of the most successful pop singers in the world.

Career

Beginnings and first success

In 1980 Céline’s mother Thérèse and her brother Jacques composed the song Ce n’était qu’un rêve, which they sent the manager René Angélil. He discovered her talent and took a mortgage on his house so he could finance her first album. In 1981 Céline Dion her first LP in their native language French, La Voix du Bon Dieu (God’s voice), which she made in Québec to a Star.

In October 1982, Celine Dion took for France at the World Popular Song Festival in Tokyo in part, for their homeland Canada who later very successful singer Bryan Adams was at the start. With the title Tellement j’ai d’amour pour toi she won in the category Best Song Award and so was a wider public outside Canada known. In 1983 she was in France for the title D’amour ou d’amitié first Canadian artist a gold record. In 1987 she produced the album Incognito, which in Canada was awarded double platinum and 1.5 million have been sold worldwide.

Supported by the Swiss composer and song writers Atilla Şereftuğ and Nella Martinetti took Céline Dion part for Switzerland at Euro Vision Song Contest 1988 in Dublin. By Title Ne pas sans moi partez whose music Şereftuğ and text came from Martinetti, she won the first place with only one point ahead of second-placed United Kingdom. This victory made them known in Europe.

International breakthrough

End of the 1980s was already a well-known and successful singer Céline Dion in Canada and France. With 20 years she had published 14 albums (eleven albums in Canada and three in France) and received a total of 15 Félix Awards and three platinum and four gold records. In the United States she knew hardly anyone, however. This was mainly because that the Canadian had been published only French-language albums and these are usually found not receive considerable attention in the United States.

For this reason, Celine Dion took titled Unison her first English album, which was released worldwide in Canada and the USA and in 1991 1990 levels. This brought her into the US in the desired success. The first single Where Does My Heart Beat Now was her first English hit and reached number 4 in the US charts. For Unison she went platinum in the US and seven times platinum in Canada.

That she did not feel as English singer, it became clear at the presentation of the Félix Awards in 1990: Celine Dion should receive the award for the best English-language artist, but declined on the grounds that she was a French-speaking singer and this will also always remain.

Published in 1991 Céline Dion titled Dion chante Plamondon (in Canada) or Des Mots Qui sonnent (in France) an album in which all the tracks have been written by the Canadian composer Luc Plamondon. On the two language markets, France and Québec, this album reached double platinum status.

The real global breakthrough Céline Dion in 1992: In the duet with Peabo Bryson she sang the theme song Beauty And The Beast to the eponymous Disney animated film Beauty and the Beast. The single became a bestseller not only in the US but also Céline’s first Top 10 single in the UK. The producer Alan Menken and Howard Ashman received for the title next several Grammys and the Golden Globe 1992, the Oscar for Best Song; Céline Dion won the 1993 together with Peabo Bryson her first Grammy in the category Best Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal – Pop.

Published in 1992, Céline Dion titled Celine Dion her second English album, on which also Beauty And The Beast is heard. With If you asked me to the album contained another US top five single. Five of the 14 tracks are from Diane Warren; With This Tear was written by Prince specially for Celine Dion. The album was sold worldwide six million times; of which nearly three million copies in the US (double platinum) and over one million copies in Canada (diamond).

Advance to World Star

Her first number one hit in the US succeeded Céline Dion in 1994 with the ballad The Power Of Love, a cover version of the successful in the ’80s title of Jennifer Rush. The single was also number 1 in Australia and landed also in the UK top five. They sold more than two million times, Céline Dion was nominated for a Grammy and American Music Awards. The Power Of Love was a single from the album also in 1994 published The Colour Of My Love, which was a huge success with over 18 million records sold. The shortly thereafter released single Think Twice was out in the US world a great success and became a number 1 hit u. A. UK, No. 2 in Australia and their first Top 20 single in Germany. They became the best-selling single by a solo artist in the history of British music industry. At the same time also finished their album The Colour of my love the top spot of the UK album charts. In the romantic comedy Sleepless in Seattle from 1993 Céline Dion is a duet with Clive Griffin and titled When I Fall In Love, a cover version of the classic Nat King Cole to hear. This single was released only in the US, while Céline UK with another extraction, Only one road, celebrated another top 10 hit. Also in 1994 she married its 26 years her senior manager René Angélil.

Despite this success with an English album Celine Dion later took a year off their next album D’eux again in French on. Produced and written were the titles contained on it by the French composer Jean-Jacques Goldman. D’eux was the best-selling French-language album of all time. In France, the album was 44 weeks at the top of the album charts and sold over four million copies. But in other countries it was a success and received in the UK as the first French language album a gold record. The singles Pour que tu m’aimes encore and Je sais pas also occupied 1st place in France and could also in various non-French-speaking countries, are very respectable success.

The success of both albums surpassed the 1996 release album Falling Into You with more than 30 million copies sold again. Celine Dion Falling Into You was with 59 weeks in the top 10 of the US album charts, this was achieved previously only Michael Jackson with Thriller and Alanis Morissette with Jagged Little Pill. In the UK the album 184 weeks was nearly four years in the charts. Falling into you not only reached # 1 in the US, UK, France, Australia and many other countries, but also in Germany double platinum.

Not least the singles made the album to great success: Firstly Because you loved me from the film Up Close, another US number 1 single and a perennial favorite in Germany (9 months on the charts and Gold status), then from the pen derived from Meat Loaf / Bonnie Tyler-producer Jim Steinman bombastic rock ballad it’s all coming back to me now, # 2 in the US and No. 3 in the UK and finally sparingly arranged, almost only by the piano accompanied all by myself, another US Top Five and UK Top 10 hit. In the UK it was also successful with the outcouplings Call the Man and the title song of the album in the singles charts.

The successful releases followed great performances: At the opening ceremony of the 1996 Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta (USA) Céline Dion sang specially composed for this title The Power Of The Dream.

Building on the success of Falling Into You could build seamlessly with its 1997 album Let’s Talk About Love. The album was recorded in London, New York and Los Angeles; at the production a number of famous singers and composers participated. Céline Dion sang duets with Barbra Streisand (Tell Him), the Bee Gees (Immortality) and opera singer Luciano Pavarotti (I Hate You Then I Love You). The Beatles producer Sir George Martin produced the written by Carole King Title The Reason, Bryan Adams wrote the theme song Let’s Talk About Love. The album became a worldwide number-one hit in almost every country and also sold more than 30 million times. The first single was Tell Him in duet with Barbra Streisand, another top 10 success in the UK, France and Australia.

Céline Dion’s greatest single success should be calculated a title she really did not want to sing originally. My Heart Will Go On was developed by James Horner and Will Jennings for James Cameron’s movie Titanic (1997) written and composed. Horner played before the title Celine Dion and her manager René Angélil. Céline Dion was of the title initially unenthusiastic, her manager but decided that she should sing it. It is also noteworthy that only the demo recording was used for the radio version of My Heart Will Go On and the album Let’s Talk About Love, on which the title is also included. The title was a number one hit including Canada, the US, UK, Australia, New Zealand and Switzerland. The greatest records broke the single in France and Germany where it was 13 weeks on place. 1 In Germany, My Heart Will Go On 21 weeks in the top 10 of the charts, with interruptions of the title a total of 39 weeks was placed and received quadruple platinum. Céline received for this country another Bambi for one of the most successful singles in the history of the German record industry. Furthermore, you gave this title to the second Oscar (1997 – at the 70th Academy Awards). The third single release Immortality with the Bee Gees came to another bestseller, reaching number 2 and platinum status in Germany.

Published in 1998, Céline Dion entitled S’il suffisait D’aimer another French album, which was written as already D’eux by Jean-Jacques Goldman. Although it has been sold worldwide about four million times, the success was limited largely to French-speaking countries.

Many of the hit singles from Céline Dion from the 90s have been posted by the Diane Warren-known especially for her ballads. However, Céline Dion operated as Song and co-writer, for example, in their song Do not Save It All for Christmas Day from the published 1998 Christmas album These Are Special Times. In animated film Quest for Camelot is the Oscar-nominated title The Prayer to hear a duet with Andrea Bocelli. The most successful single from the album was the title I’m Your Angel, a duet with R. Kelly, which was six weeks at the top of the American charts.

Published in 1999, Céline Dion titled All The Way … A Decade Of Song her first English-language best-of album, consisting of nine of their greatest hits as well as seven new titles. The title If Walls Could Talk was written by Robert John Lange, the background vocals to sing Shania Twain. All The Way … A Decade Of Song was in nearly all countries at No. 1 on the album charts and sold around the world about 20 million times. The most successful single from the album was written by Max Martin Title That’s The Way It Is, another Top 10 hit on both sides of the Atlantic.

With the release of the album Céline Dion announced its intention to take a longer break to spend more time with her friends and her husband. On January 25, 2001, she gave birth to a son.

Successful comeback

After their break Céline Dion announced in 2002 back with her album A New Day Has Come, which showed with number 1 in 17 countries, that it was able to continue exactly where they left off. The lead single of the same name had become another Top 10 hit in the UK and Germany. Another decoupling, I’m alive, the title song to the movie Stuart Little 2 and especially in Germany and Scandinavia to a month-long top five chart Renner.

2003 Céline Dion was heard in the soundtrack of Mona Lisa Smile. They also released another studio album: While One Heart was ranked 2 on the US charts, reaching the Top 10 in the UK, Germany and Australia, but it was not so long in the international charts as its predecessor. Sales were indeed still terrific for most artists, for Céline Dion’s standards measured by the success of its predecessors but a setback. One of the reasons was the poor marketing, because from March 2003 to December 2007 Dion had a contract with the Hotel Caesars Palace in Las Vegas and joined five times per week. The show was so successful that the contract extended ahead and organized in a villa was built on site, which is located on Lake Las Vegas. On December 15, 2007, their last show at Caesars Colosseum was listed. Since February 2008 Cher is her successor at the Colosseum.

During her appearance time in Las Vegas Celine Dion published in 2004, the CD Miracle in collaboration with Anne Geddes. This CD contains mostly gentle, partly multilingual music for children. On the cover of Celine Dion is seen with a baby in her arms.

On 25 April 2007. Celine Dion sang in a charity special episode of American Idol Gives Back a duet with Elvis Presley. To this end, Dion had practiced the duet with a double, during the broadcast Elvis was virtually created as Dion duet partner.

In May 2007 appeared Dions French language album D’elles whose first single Et s’il n’en restait qu’une (depending serais celle-là) appeared in February and went into France on # 1. Especially in the Francophone area D’elles could inspire many music lovers for himself.

After five years, appeared on 9 November 2007, entitled Taking Chances again an English album of Celine Dion, which provides internationally quite a furore. It reached the top 10 in many countries, including the US, France, Britain and Germany. The comeback single, the eponymous title song, it managed not in the top 10 of the charts, but true direction for Dion’s fresher, more rock music style. On 7 December 2007 their live DVD A New Day … Live in Las Vegas, which sold like wildfire around the world appeared.

Céline Dion entered 2008 in Paris at the Palais Omnisports Paris Bercy on for several shows. In Germany, Austria and Switzerland in 2008 she gave concerts in June and July. The song selection is different depending on the country, there are two Set Lists this worldwide tour. She had only english in Paris mostly French songs in the program, in Germany to a French song.

On 21 August 2008 Céline Dion was awarded at Laval University honorary doctorate of music. The award in the course of the 400-year celebrations of Quebec honoring her contributions as an internationally successful and well-known artist and her social commitment. After the French knighthood in the same year, this was the second prestigious award for Céline Dion in of 2008.

Since March 15, 2011, Celine Dion takes turn on for three years in the “Caesars Palace” in Las Vegas.
